French Speaking Lab

Who can use the Speaking Lab?

Typically, the lab is reserved for students in the following courses:

  • FREN 201 (Intermediate French, Part 1)
  • FREN 202 (Intermediate French, Part 2)
  • FREN 321 (Advanced French, Part 1)
  • FREN 322 (Advanced French, Part 2)
  • 300 and 400 level French Classes

What is the purpose of the French Speaking Lab

The speaking lab gives students of certain courses the opportunity to practice speaking one-on-one with a native or native like tutor. This allows you to concentrate on the personal weaknesses you may have in speaking the language. The lab is an excellent resource for working on your pronunciation as well as preparing for any oral presentations or speaking assignments in your courses, as well as for the Oral Proficiency Interview (OPI).

How does the Speaking Lab work?

You will first need to schedule an appointment with a speaking lab tutor. Schedule an appointment by clicking on the button bellow. You can also review the instructions for how to use our online scheduler here.

What are the Lab Policies?

  • We expect students to come prepared with a professional attitude
  • Accounts will be blocked after two (2) no-shows.
  • You must cancel at least two (2) hours in advance to avoid a no-show.
  • If you are blocked you will be limited to walk-in appointments only
  • By coming to the lab you accept that lab tutors will push you out of your comfort zone during your appointments and will ask follow up questions if necessary
  • If on Zoom, you must be in an appropriate environment similar to the in-person lab; quiet and distraction free
  • You will be marked absent if you are engaged in another activity while in your appointment (ie: driving, rock climbing, attending a wedding, etc…)

Your instructor may have specific assignments for the lab, so consult Learning Suite or Canvas prior to your appointment.
